Leaf-Cutter Ants on the Move

Leaf-cutter ants are able to carry pieces of leaves in their mouths that are many times heavier than their own bodies.
Question: Why are the ants moving in two different directions along the tree branch?

Answer
Ants moving in one way are going to get more leaf parts. The ants moving the other way are carrying the leaf parts back to the nest.
